I'm experiencing a couple of conditions because I use a computer on a daily basis: tinnitus and eye floaters.

Tinnutus

I'm aware that tinnitus is a common condition. It might not be related only to tech people, but I noticed it is related to the usage of a computer in my case.

When I work or stare at a computer screen, which I often do in my free time, for a certain amount of time during the day, I experience tinnitus more frequently. I feel like my head is in a bucket and there are a thousand people speaking at the same time while making other, mostly high-pitched, disturbances.

I read that sitting in front of a computer for a long time is a possible cause because it makes me lean over, which is called "tech neck." Basically, my front neck muscles are weak because of this position, and that is somehow related to my ears and I don't know what else.

Anyway, I have tinnitus, and it is not that bad, and it is not there every day, and it makes me feel uncomfortable sometimes, but I got used to it.

Eye floaters

Did you ever notice small dots and lines in front of your eyes? These are called eye floaters (Muscae volitantes). I have had these since I was in high school.

Computers are not the main reason I see eye floaters, but I often "experience" them while working. See, I like light themes on my computer - a light VS Code theme, light website themes, etc. Reading black text on a light background feels natural to me. When I read light text on a dark background and then I look away, for a few seconds my eyes have trouble processing it - the image is all smudgy. But staring at a light background makes me see eye floaters almost all the time.

I also noticed that my vision is a bit poor when I'm tired or when it is late. It's like I'm seeing double. I've been to an eye doctor, and my vision is fine. They said it is related to eye tiredness. Eye floaters are also related to eye tirednessamong other things like aging. It seems that computers are not causing the eye floaters, they just make me see them.

Anyway, I see eye floaters, and it is not that bad, and it's not every day, and it makes me feel uncomfortable sometimes, but I got used to it.

Conclusion

There are jobs with much worse conditions or consequences out there. My job is what it is and I love it. I just wanted to describe my conditions and maybe find other people with similar experiences to make me feel normal about these conditions.

P.S. I have other issues, but they are a pain in the butt (literally) and maybe I'll write about them some other time.
